Worse Than The Poor Law, Universal Credit Slammed By Councils, Charities And Even Landlords

the void

cih-poor-lawSavage new rules, which could leave newly unemployed, sick or disabled people with no money at all for six weeks, have been slammed in a consultation carried out by the DWP’s own advisors.

The Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) ran the consultation after the DWP warned that the seven day waiting period already introduced for current out of work sickness and unemployment benefits is being extended to Universal Credit. As the SSAC rightly point out this will leave most new claimants without any benefits at all for six weeks due to the monthly payment cycle of Universal Credit.  Perhaps most shocking of all, this will include payments intended to cover rents, meaning new claimants will not just face the trauma of losing their job but immediately be plunged into huge rent arrears.

The plans have been met with outrage by charities, housing associations, local authorities and even landlords.  One organisation…

TRUTH Seekers

jaynelinney

Two blogs in the past 24 hours, have both raised the issue of the newly elected Tory Government and it’s Ministers continuing to Lie, to the Commons, the Upper House and the People!

Joe Haleswood enlightened us about Freud, Lying to the Lords about the bedroom tax, whilst Mike Sivier over at Vox Political informs us how the IT system at Downing St deleting emails allows staff and #Cameron to ‘forget’ what has been said/written. Further to this, relating to Mike’s fight for DWP to reveal the truth, a petition to HM Courts & Justice, demanding them to publish the statistics of how many people have died after their benefits were stopped, has at time of writing gained 149,594 signatures.

Regular readers will be well aware of the #TRUTHCampaign, that Debbie Sayers & I have spent the past two years slogging on; this includes our own successful petition, to the Work & Pensions Committee to Hold IDS to…

Priti Patel Hands Award To Poverty Pay Employer That Pays Just £2.68 An Hour

the void

priti-deathThe DWP’s new Minister of Death Priti Patel last night handed out an award to a company who pays just 11 pence an hour more than the minium wage to staff in a supervisory role whilst retail staff on Apprenticeships earn just £2.68 per hour.

Patel was the main speaker at the annual awards ceremony held by the Employment Related Service Association (ERSA), the trade body established to lie of behalf of the welfare to work sector.  Every year the likes of G4S and A4e gather for a slap up meal at a luxury London venue to celebrate another year of fleecing the tax payer and dole out awards to employers who have helped them gain ‘job outcome’ payments.

This year’s Large Employer of the Year award went to Poundbakery, a not very large employer who run a chain of bakery shops.  Accrding to ERSA, this was for demonstrating “exceptional…

the void

£715 will pay for a room for a charity chief executive in a top hotel for just one night. Please give generously. Sponsor a room. Just £715 will pay for for a charity chief executive to stay in a top hotel for two nights. Please give generously. You fucking mug.

Charity Chief Executives and so-called housing experts are gearing up for this year’s homelessness industry conference which is due to be held at a four star hotel with ticket prices as high as £715!

Next month’s Under One Roof conference is organised by charity umbrella body Homeless Link and provides a chance for homelessness experts to talk about homeless people without any actual homeless people being present.  This year’s swanky bash is being held at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire where according to Homeless Link  “Delegates staying overnight are also entitled to complimentary use of the leisure club facilities, which include a heated indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gym, sauna, spa, steam room and solarium.”

Were somebody who is homeless wishing…

Work and be sanctioned.

The poor side of life

A few months ago I wrote about this but people are only just starting to pick up on it. Maybe it’s because the veil of secrecy that surrounds universal credit is being slowly unveiled and the press are now taking note.

Because Ashton Under Lyne Jobcentre is a universal credit trial Jobcentre we always get the displeasure of trying out their new schemes earlier than everyone else. As a result we get to see the tragedy caused by their trials before anyone else. I do try and spread the word so please share.

Universal credit is designed to eventually take over our much loved tax credit benefit scheme. Despite its faults and mysterious over payments that they say that people owe they are a lifeline to many many working and non working people. Wages for many are just too low to survive on so we have to claim a top…
